This sub-forum is reserved for formal debate between two posters only.

The rules of this section are as follows:

1. Usual NGLreturns rules (i.e. the basic stuff about personal insults, racist/sexist/homophobic language etc.) still apply (of course);

2. Two posters who intend to carry out a formal debate should propose the debate to admin or to the moderators, outlining the subject/title of the proposed debate and their qualification to debate said subject;

3. Only those two posters are entitled to post in the relevant debate thread - all posts from other members will be summarily removed. However, for comment upon an ongoing debate, a separate thread for other members will be created to comment freely;

4. Each poster will take it in turns to post;

5. Each contribution will have a maximum limit of 1500 words;

6. The debate ends by mutual consent of the two debaters.

WTF does that mean?

What 'qualifications" do we need to participate in a debate on this forum?

Recognised ones, or self-important ones?

Just sayin'........

Nice idea Admin but looks like this particular horse has fallen at the first hurdle. Think you need to restart the  section ... maybe with a debate of your own to show certain people just how it's done?

I agree Ivy, but as it had already started, I couldn't resist.

Gosh, you're not actually suggesting that dear ol' Judders should actually follow the rules are you?

Shocking.

How are you defining 'homophobic'? If the term is to refer to anyone who expresses any kind of negative attitude towards homosexuality or homosexual behaviour then that might rule out debates on gay marriage, gay adoption, etc.

Also 'racist' and 'sexist' could rule out other debates; such as whether one race is superior to another in terms of intelligence or ability in some area.

Just sayin'.

As a rule of thumb - debate is fine. Breaking the law isn't. Incitement to hatred etc... isn't. And slanging matches must be confined to the Bear Pit.

Apart from that - you can debate what you wish. Just as others are entitled to rip an argument to threads....
