Bible text.

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2014/12...own-life-after-anti-gay-bullying/

All too often we read of these sad occurrences. It is time the anti-gay passages which instigate this sort of behaviour were removed from the Bible everywhere, in all languages.

In this modern, enlightened age there is no room for such harmful teaching ... especially since it is merely the edicts of long-dead people who knew no better. God, if there is such a being, would never sanction such a wicked, heartless teaching.

The text of Scripture is what it is, Len.
But the Jesus to whom I belong said we should love
God
Ourselves
One another
Our neighbours
Our enimies.

That about covers it.
There's no room there for us to condemn anyone or judge anyone - that's God's business, not ours.

But if you love God as Jesus commanded, then you surely must obey the scriptures which are claimed to be the word of God.

How do you reconcile the two things?

It is certain God-written scriptural phrases which cause some believers to behave the way they do ... and that is why I feel they should be removed from the Bible.

Will removing the bible text nullify the good advice that it contains, with the health benefits of following such good advice?

READ MY POST.

I said "It is time the anti-gay passages which instigate this sort of behaviour were removed from the Bible everywhere, in all languages."

Nothing about health benefits there.

Romans 3
20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

I read it and noted that people today think that ignoring good advice is a modern way of thinking, but if you read scripture you will find that there is nothing new under the sun.

The damage one human can do to another is still as deadly.

Len:
Tpoo many fundamentalists (and bigots) use the Leviticus texts out of conteext - forgetting that Jesus fulfilled the Law we could never fulfill.
That Jesus who was uncompromising when it comes to love.
Sadly, some of His followers and those who think their group has a monopoly on Scripture (so much so that they make a pigs ear of translating it) forget this.
Yes, there are mentions of homosexuality in Romans and 1 Corinthians - but in context whixh is somewhat ambiguous.
However - and I know you'll disagree with me here, but I cannot see a way round it, Scripture makes it very clear that marriage for the Christian can only be between one man and one woman, and that sex outside that union, whether homosexual or heterosexual, is sin - but Christ showed the way to overcome that sin.

Please note: I'm not against gay civil or secular marriage - not in the least.
But for the Christian marriage, I can't see a compromise.

There will always be people who are stupid enough to ignore good advice, but fortunately they are in the minority.

Nowadays, many of us can also see the bad advice that some foolish people consider as the wishes of their "God".

Well, Jim, as long as you consider the Bible text as the word of your "God", the problem will remain.

I merely see it as the writings of an ancient people who mistakenly believed "God" was communicating with them.
