Blasphemy Day

Today (30th September) is International Blasphemy Day

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blasphemy_Day

This was founded on the idea that it should be permissible to criticise religion. It was founded in the USA.

The founder states that, whereas it is permissible to criticise political beliefs, there is a "taboo" on criticising religious beliefs.

Is this true? It seems to me that I come across criticism of religion and religious beliefs pretty much every day. Has anyone here encountered such a taboo? And is it really easier to criticise political beliefs?

Maybe things are different in the good ole US of A.

I think as a society we in the UK have become much better at discussing religious and political issues.

It's just a shame that so few of our governing politicians seem inclined to listen to ordinary people.
