Closed faiths

Druze, Zoroastrian, and Hindu faiths come to mind as those who do not accept converts (although for different historical reasons).

Can anybody think of a good reason to "close" a faith? Surely without any new blood a faith runs the risk of dying out?

I know of Western converts to Hinduism - although what Westerners call Hinduism (for convenience more than anything else) is really such a vast and various array of differing beliefs and philosophies that there's really no one single monolithic "religion" to convert to.
Powwow

Well there's only an couple Shakers left. They want converts but they have that no sex rule. Some idiots blame their demise on the Jews, Abraham Lincoln and the automobile.LOL!

I understand that some forms of Orthodox Judaism holds that one cannot convert to Judaism, it is something you are born into. I've also heard them argue that people cannot leave the faith either.

I have read this, although I think it is more a matter of somebody born into a Jewish family always being considered to be a Jew, even if they renounce the faith. A case in point is Peter Bart, the former editor of Variety magazine. Bart comes from a secular family, and has stated on more than one occasion that the only time that he has entered a synagogue was for somebody else's Bar Mitzvah. Bart does not consider himself to be Jewish, and interestingly he has many times complained about a Jewish clique running  the US entertainment industry.
