Hi FF
NearlySane

And another prodigal...

Yes I stayed with the BBC but only two weeks more, I do think a party or a wake for it would be appropriate. I have a vague intention to seek out an read in its entirety the Noah's Ark thread that went past 15000 posts

You could get into the Guinness book of Records for that feat of endurance.
NearlySane

If I remember Tom_Cruising won it. I always found it funny when people would say that threads of a few hundred were long.

Welcome to the Forum - Fast Flint and Nearly Sane
Alan

Hiya,
The poster known as Alan on the CTMB is now here posting as, well, Alan. Hope we can carry on with some of the interesting stuff from CTMB days.

This forum looks good. Well done to those who set it up and keep it going.

Hi Alan and WELCOME.
Pukon_the_Treen

Welcome newguys. Glad to see Alan particularly as we do have an imbalance in the ratio of believers to non-believers. I've always liked your style on the BBC board Alan; good to have you here.
daddyDA

Hello BBC Forum Transfers - I'm here & I Unscathed !

I have no idea how all the Tech stuff works yet but good to see you all...What would I do without you!
Pukon_the_Treen

Welcome DaddyDA; another believer I think, and one whose posts I have enjoyed on the CTMB.

Welcome! You'll keep us lack-of-belief'ers' on our toes, no doubt!

ETA What is the picture on your avatar? I can't make it out.
daddyDA

A believer Indeed Pukon & good to find you here!

Thanks pukon, you know from your time on the CMTB that numerous other trade mark, creationist or bible believing Christians have me top of their list when it finally comes to 'burn a heretic day' but I happy to be here & looking forward to some decent debate!
Pukon_the_Treen

By the way DaddyDA; what on earth did you post on Teachable Hearts to get an instant and permanent banhammering? Come on, you can tell us; we're broad-minded.

Pukon, I really have to get some stuff done on my day off...I'm addicted to message boards & could spend all day here but, before I set off for Northampton on a 66 mile round trip...Sav Nat Ready to go...Christian foot poised over the gas pedal & mind already think...Now let's press it HARD! Here goes...

I wondered if there was any chance of debating with these people. You know, debate, where you have one person speaking, the other listening & then posting either replies or rebuttals.

Reasonable enough for a forum, even a Christian forum, I would have thought.

Now OK, I accepted that they were fundy through & through...Fear not, I knew it would be hard dealing with that faith & mind set but I thought just maybe, I could get them to think a little, consider a little & wake up and smell the coffee.

Okay, I guess I also thought maybe they might even have a living sense of humour but clearly they'd all long since had the by-pass operation & I was on a hiding to nothing trying to get them to confront reality, from their Christian faith position.

I did notice that they were a Whizz at copy & paste from the Bible.

I must say, that was impressive...Whole Chapters from the good book & then about three words from the poster! I thought, well not only does this save thinking, it must save wear & tear on the keyboard. (Of course, it rapidly became clear that any dissent from their world view was intolerable & I would be treated as a troll.)

Well, I'm off to 'troll on' & over to Northampton to visit Royal Mail!
Got my Darwin Sticker on my back window & my palm cross on my dash board !

Depends whether you reverse into him or hit him head on! Have fun; I'll be heading down Northampton way soon myself; my sister lives in Wellingborough and she's due to sprog in the next week.

Admin hat time: As well as warmly welcoming all new members who have joined recently (which is immensely gratifying), I would just like to inform them (and remind the old hands) that the suggestion box is always open if you have any ideas about how we can make NGLreturns better. We can't do everything, but we do promise to look at and weigh up every suggestion. So please feel free to let us know what you'd like to see here.

Hi y'all, I posted under the same name at the BBC board and thought I'd give this a try.  Nice to see some familiar faces!

Hell Yeah!!

Hi everyone. I signed up here a while back but have just kept my eye on  the CMB.

I've not been a prolific poster on the CMB, more of an observer. I have however been on there for about 3 and a half years under various guises (Cantona7, 8nderson, DotCottonsCurls, Go4th&X and now P-E-A-R-L). I'll try my best to keep the same name on here!

Cheers.

Nice to see a lot of familiar names on here.
I hope there even more to follow

Welcome, Alan

This is the poster known as Ricardo Abrigos on the CTMB , and known in other places as Dicky Underpants.

No doubt I'll get into a few arguments with you about the ideas of the old Geezer V and other worthies of my reading.

I've deliberately chosen not to have internet at home, so my access and time on public computers is rather limited. Since the Beeb board is closing, this will be my default site from now on. I used to post here more frequently in the past, and Lexi and my much esteemed Shaker are splendid mods indeed.

Cheers pops, although I wouldn't compare me to a rose!
Andy

Hello and welcome to all who have migrated from the beeb.

Hope to be talking to you soon.

Oh - and please note the edit function and formatting choices.

Much better than the beeb.

Anyone else wonder why they went to all the trouble of changing the format, functionality and look of the CTMB when they were simply going to close it down?

Me, for one. How long ago was that? A few months? You're not telling me that the final closure wasn't already known about by then (long before that point, I'd imagne) so just why did they bother?

The phrase about rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic springs to mind. The Beeb boards have been hopelessly outdated for donkey's years and the lack of formatting and editing options - pretty basic, bog-standard stuff that the lowliest message boards have as standard - have been a thorn in my side throughout: the recent makeover, instead of giving us things like that which would have been of some actual use, was just a cosmetic exercise - and one which, it now turns out, was absolutely and utterly pointless.

Well said admin. Your comments about how technically primitive the BBC boards are, have needed to be said for years. My first experience of discussion boards started with the Beeb in 2004. I then started to look for other boards and soon realised how primitive the BBC boards were.
Ketty

to all the newbies - I guess that makes me an oldy.

Kind of surprised no-one pointed out that discussions could carry on after-hours here before the BBC board was shutting down, but hey-ho...

So, transferring from the BBC boards now that they're in their death-throes, good to see some familiar names already.

They did, from time to time, but often such posts were the subject of moderation.

We continue to attract new members - in total no fewer than forty-three this month alone.    to the new kids on the block.
