Facts Mormons Won't Tell You When They Come Knocking

I am extremely concerned about a point that was raised inthis video regarding the book of mormon and it having a familiar spirit.

Is this true?
The only reference I can find regarding this is here.....

“Truly it [Book of Mormon] has a familiar spirit…” —LeGrand Richards, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, 1979, pp. 67-68

If this is true and perish the thought, then the Missionaries are responsible for introducing demons into unsuspecting peoples houses, my own included, they asked me to read it and pray and then God would give me a testimony, perhaps a burning in the bosom to know it's truthfullness, thank God, He protected me from this!!!!! It never felt right to either read the book or pray about it, I had this book in my house for years, I would NOT have accepted it at all if I had suspected for one minute this is truly what the missionaries believe.

This is a serious point and I sincerely hope that it can be discussed frankly and openly, it is just a shame that Ralph is a lone voice on this Forum.

Ralph. if we promise to behave and treat them with respect, would you be able to invite some practicing Mormons into this debate?

Thank you, and thank you Pow Wow for bringing this to our attention.

Honey, one question - why?  Why would a Christian give house room  and encouragement to the promotion and marketing of lies?

Many of the people who the missionaries call on do not know Jesus on a personal basis, they are not equipped with the Holy Spirit to understand the things of God, there are scriptures that cover this but if you are neither knowing or understanding you are open to this type of misleading, many people are searching for God, some without even realising it!

As for me, well, have you watched the video? if the points raised are true, I can vouch that these are the things that the Missionaries do not tell you openly, plus as Christians we would only discuss Jesus and the bible with them.

I have spoken with the Missionaries both before and after becoming Christian we have welcomed them into our home and given them meals, but as I said this was many years ago, they have stopped calling on us now for some reason?

But how many more are in the situation of having a book in their homes, totally oblivious to the fact that the Missionaries may or may not believe has a familiar spirit?

As I said before, this is serious stuff!

I know it is!  Spiritual warfare is life and death stuff.  And we shouldn't allow it to even get a toehold let alone a foothold. Don't invite it in, but if it comes calling then make sure the Armour of God is in full working order.

Source: Do Not Receive Him Into Your House Nor Greet Him

John's epistles describe the challenges faced by the children of God. The second and third epistle of John specifically deal with false teachers and men such as Diotrephes.

Through the Holy Spirit, John gives direction and exhortation concerning those deceivers. 2 John 9-11 reads: "Everyone who does not abide in the teaching of Christ, but goes beyond it, does not have God; whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.  Do not receive into the house or welcome anyone who comes to you and does not bring this teaching; for to welcome is to participate in the evil deeds of such a person."

John exhorts "the elect lady and her children," to take care of how they fellowship these people and not to give any credence to their false doctrine. He seeks to help them maintain their faith in the face of opposition as the Hebrew writer exhorts in Hebrews 10:35 - "Do not, therefore, abandon that confidence of yours; it brings a great reward."

The nature of the deceivers is they are willing to "go beyond" or "go ahead" of the doctrine of Christ.  To be a disciple of Christ, one must "abide" - "tarry" - "continue to be present" - in the teaching of the Father. Those who are false teachers will not continue in the teachings of the Father but make for themselves their own law.  Christ Jesus made mention of this in Mark 7:7 - "in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines."

Romans 16:17-18  "Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offences, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple."  With the knowledge that "many deceivers have gone out into the world," (2 John 7) and the saints must "not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God," (1 John 4:1) care must be taken with their reception of these false teachers.   There is nothing wrong with allowing a person to come into the house to discuss the Bible. John (through the Holy Spirit) was not forbidding the specific act of talking with someone about the Bible in our homes but allowing them to be accepted in the false doctrine as part of our fellowship.

He explains that if we condone by our fellowship the deceivers and give them greetings, we share in their evil deeds.  Why? Because we are not willing to stand for Christ and defend the Truth.  If a Mormon came to my door and wanted to talk with me about the Bible (and the Bible only), I would let him come into my house, sit on my couch and open the Bible to talk with him about his false teaching.  This would not contradict scripture as I seek to defend the Truth before him.

A greeting of fellowship cannot be given to those who "go ahead" of the doctrine of Christ as some would suppose that all are children of God in Christ.  I cannot greet a person as a Christian who is not a Christian nor should I condone their false doctrine.  Whether it is in my front living-room, office, front porch or back yard or wherever -

That is very good advice, but the ordinary rank and file mormons are not our enemies, they are where we were before Gods grace helped us to recognise and accept Jesus, Jesus came to seek and save the lost, He came for people like us and especially people like the Mormons, we should always remember 'what would Jesus do?'

I think He would try to love them into the kingdom.

Many of these people have never had the opportunity to hear the true gospel never mind run ahead of it! so if we are not willing to tell them, who will?

pow wow,
I feel I'm missing something here.
My screenreader didn't pick up the words on the video.
gone

As a teenager my sisters and I let two drop dead gorgeous American male mormons into our home when our parents were out. They did their spiel, but it went right above our heads, we were too busy admiring their bodies.      Our parents went ballistic when they arrived home!

I always firmly shut the door, with a polite, NO THANK YOU, on anyone who tries to sell us the deity, whatever the guise!
Lexilogio

You don't seriously believe there is some form of demon in the book?

I always ignore them. Although I did, rather helpfully I thought, last year point out that they were completely wasting their time knocking on doors in our street - as the vast majority are already firm members of a faith. Next door are Muslim, the other side, Sikh. On the other side of the road is a Catholic, next door to a Methodist, next door to more Catholics. Going down the hill are Hindu, baptist, Hindi, baptist, catholic. The suited US Mormons were completely wasting their time

I could not agree more.  And whoever even suggested they are 'our enemy' is totally misguided, and wrong.

This is spiritual warfare.  It is what is using the Mormons to, sometimes innocently and sometimes deliberately, propagate and market falsehood - and in the so-doing, turning them and others further away from Truth.

Aye!  Love the people, I couldn't agree more.  But do not invite in the author of lies and give him a platform.

Did Jesus love the Pharisees?  It's like the mother who allows their child to get away with murder because a) they love their child and b) it actually, in the short term, makes life calmer and easier . . . but in the long term it's just storing up trouble.  Do we see our child as an enemy when we say a strong 'NO!' ?  Is it not loving to say an urgent 'NO!'  when we can see imminent danger especially for innocent bystanders?

If somebody invites trouble to their door, out of love and concern, I am compelled to give warning.

They do use the old KJV?

One has to pray for the discernment of the Holy Spirit to open the eyes and ears . . .

I have tried to google a version that is narrated, with no joy yet Jim,

We could perhaps cover each point in turn with you?

Most of it is, they won't tell you you're in the wrong church, your ministers are serving satan, women will only obtain salvation through their husbands and will be eternally pregnant in the next life and other such things, thtings I have heard on this forum already.

But I was most concerned about the fact that according to this video, the Mormon Missionaries are taught that familiar spirits are good and the book of mormon has it's own, it is very worrying to me because the Missionaries place many of these books with  people they call on and at least as far as I know they wouldn't be honest about this belief.

Oh, I'm sorry Jim, I should have realized there could be a problem. I'll look for a clip with the same points and no hillbilly music.

Honey 56,
I would not be too worried. You didn't read it and pray for a sign or something. Dad had the BOM in his library for many years. He read it and used it to show Mormons that came to the door what a fraudulent book it is.

"One of the most important predictions regarding the Book of Mormon is that found in the 29th chapter of Isaiah. The prophet here speaks of a people who should be like Ariel, the city where David dwelt. They should have heaviness and sorrow and should be brought down to speak out of the ground, and their speech was to be low out of the dust, and their voice was to be as of one that had a familiar spirit."    Mormon false prophet  Joseph Fielding Smith  Doctrines of Salvation volume 3  page 213

This one covers most of the points Jim.
