Not what He looks like.

The problem is there is no evidence that Jesus did any of the things claimed for him in the Gospels.

Well, there's the Gospels.

Not really reliable evidence, though, are they? Given that we're talking about documents of unknown or at least uncertain authorship written decades at least after the events they purport to describe and which can't agree on specific details and frequently give at least two contradictory accounts of the same alleged event.

But apart from that ...

Well, that particular little dose of uncomfortable truth went down like a lead balloon ...

As soon as someone says the "Gospels" are evidence/proof of "Jesus" I just have to roll my eyes...

At best they show that there might have been a christ, but as proof of Jesus. No, they so obviously don't.....

Not uncomfortable at all. Do you hold generally in history to the principle that conflicting accounts means an event never occurred.

See what Mr Subtle did there? Conflated "evidence" and "proof" - to subtly put across the suggestion that claiming the Gospels as evidence is as absurd as claiming them as proof.

oooh isn't he subtle!

But with any issue from that historical period, you have to take what evidence you have. It is not unusual to rely on a couple of historical texts as an evidence base.  An example is the existence and society of Sparta - which was based on a few documents from the time. Again, for the existence of Pylos - and again, Troy.
