Jesus

Jesus said that we should love our neighbour as ourselves.

Why do humans find this SO hard to do?

I would find it VERY hard to 'love' certain people, even some relatives.

Yes, I admit, it can be a challenge with some of mine too! I try - and I find trying to understand behaviour does help. But I admit there are people I try to minimise contact with...

But surely you can love someone without liking them?

I agree. You can not like someone but still love them. It isn't always easy though. I do find that my sense of irritation does sometimes get in the way.

Oh, yeah - when the local teenagers out for an ego trip think it's funny to call you a blind bastard, and attempt to trip you up by putting obstacles in your path, it's hard to love them.
That's when love ceases to be an emotionsl response, but becomes an act of will.
I often wonder if Jesus liked those who insulted, mocked, beat, spat on Him and nailed Him to the Cross.
I thank Him that He loved both them, and us.

Would things have been different if God the word had simply become a man in the first place.
Perhaps if God had just used his foreknowledge then he would have simply been himself from the start rather than letting averything get so out of hand.
It does rather confuse the issue that since God took on flesh he has taken to the hills and kept his head down while people argue about how he became man.

Still I suppose some one can come up for a rational to explain why God did not just simply carry on with the job he started.

This is one of the least logical (and, IMHO, least commendable) aspects of Christianity. Love is a major concept, and expecting it to be conjured up by an act of will and applied to all and sundry, the ungrateful and undeserving included, demeans and cheapens it.

Save love for those for whom it's a good and worthwhile thing to expend it upon.

You could love them with your stick across their backsides, Jim.  Or forgive them for they know not what they do.

Aye, for good reason it is a verb.

Yes, and Amen.

We are charged with loving the unloveable and when we can't do it in our own strength, then we must pray for His strength.

One thought, if you don't even like yourself, how can you start to love others?

Now that God is in the flesh I expect he can't get arround like he used to.

Cause the majority of humans walk in the fallen flesh and not in the Spirit since they have not been born of the Spirit.

If we have been born of the Spirit then the flesh is crucified with Messiah.

If the fallen flesh has been crucified with Messiah, with all its desires, then why do we try to resurrect it and still walk in it ?

Galatians 5 Complete Jewish Bible
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 humility, self control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things.
24 Moreover, those who belong to the Messiah Yeshua have put their old nature to death on the stake, along with its passions and desires. 25 Since it is through the Spirit that we have Life, let it also be through the Spirit that we order our lives day by day.
