Mayan predictions 21/12/12

http://www.mayanpredictions.net/

The world ends on the 21/12/12 according the Mayan Calender.
Others say that it was an end of age rather than end of the world.
Winter solstice falls on the 21st December.

I've got a video on Myan Prophesies made by Nat Geographic. To say it is very interesting is an understatement. The date and what will happen is intriguing.

Oh I haven't got the video ... what did it say? I did once buy a book about it in a fit of the 'what if they are right?' But I never got around to reading it and now can't find where I put it ...... probably the Oxfam shop!

It was a video about the Myans, their life style rather bloodthirsty and their religious knowledge linked into science. There is a prophesy that the world will end in 2012 but you have to see the research to understand it. I won't spoil your fun as the video/DVD is available. Have  a look at it you will enjoy it.

Do you believe it? Do you seriously think that the Mayan civilisation were able to predict the end of the world?
IvyOwl

I personally don't believe that the Earth will end in 2012 .... it could of course anything is possible. But from what I can remember  I don't think the Myans were predicting the end of the world just the end of an age. And if it was a prediction they were crap at predicting as they didn't predict their own civilisations end .... mmm as far as I know. (Just realised that apart from the bloodythirstiness I know very little of the Myans)

I was just curious about the Nat Geo take. Cymrudynnion what's the title?

Thanks.

I was watching a TV programme about this just the other night, 'ancient astronaunts' don't ask

One of the 'experts' in this field was saying that they have found and deciphered engavings that explain that the date 21-12-12 is when the Mayans were expecting their gods to return, and so just because their calandar runs out doesn't mean they necessarily thought the world would end.
So we can all get on with our christmas shopping after all

My son bought me a DVD with the programme from Discovery Channell covering this. Apparantly there are many predictions on the mayan Callendar that the Mayans got right. However the end of the world was interpreted as the end of the mayans and when making the programme there were only a handful of genuine mayans left alive and they were not young.

I won't hold my breath.

I have a prediction. Someone is going to ask cym for examples, and he is not going to give any.

Cym, can you give us any examples of these accurate Mayan predictions? (I assume they are not simply astronomical, like when there'll be an eclipse and stuff.)

(hey, part of my prophecy came true already...)

Without looking back over the DVD no I cannot give you examples. When I do look at the DVD again I will quote you some

The idiots who have predicted the end of the world, like that fool Harold Camping, haven't got it right and nor will they. Obviously it will end sometime when our sun goes out, or we get hit by an asteroid, or humans are stupid enough to blow it up with nuclear weapons. However it ends I bet it will have NOTHING to do with any 'supernatural' event.

This thread isn't really about the world ending in a supernatural event. It is about whether the Mayans predicted when it will end. If a natural or manmade event occurred on whatever-date-it-is 2012, as long as it destroyed the world than that would do nicely for the Mayan-prediction party.
IvyOwl

Wasn't this Mayan end of the world stuff just something New Ager type people took on. When all it really meant was the end of one of the Mayan great ages?

Um I confess I did once buy a book written by one of those weirdos (well you know thought I'd better read up on it just in case )  and couldn't get through the first chapter. Either I was being thick or he was writing bollox I prefer to think it was the latter lol)

We live in a dangerous world ...... could end any time either by the hand of man or the hand of mother nature  and somebody somewhere will have predicted it!
My money is on the super volcano, Yellowstone, blowing at the same time as a great big enormous asteroid impacts the moon which comes showering down on top of us. And that's going to happen sometime within the next .... oh I don't know  ... sometime before the sun runs out of fuel in about 5 billion years time. But it could be next week!
