religion & ethics forum

I tried to get on the religion and ethics forum this morning and find the message "account suspended". Does anybody know anything about it?

Good grief, I'd quite forgotten what a smoothie you are, Ket!

If Jakswan has closed it down, I expect there will be an influx here, which will save hopping from one to the other.

More likely Jakswan has got fed up with the responsibility of what is, after all, nothing more than a load of arguments going round and round in circles.

Oh, so it's not just me. I thought perhaps I had been too naughty again but was puzzled because the suspension message didn't name me nor say when I could use the litter box again.
Farmer Geddon

So just out of curiosity...

Where have the regulars from R&E disappeared to?
Derek

So, has it just disappeared, or is there an explanation for why it is not business as usual.  Was there any indication that it was going down, did it break any laws, do any of its regular posters, that have come here now, know if something was awry. It was only a matter of time, in my opinion, but there must be a reason.
The Boyg

I doubt it's anything so dramatic. He's probably just missed paying the hosting bill (could be that he's away on holiday) and will get it sorted out in the next few days.

As you say nothing that dramatic.

Maybe many of the contributors there are not aware of this site, so if anybody has the email addresses of some of the regular contributors there, they could let them know about it.

The reason Mr Shaker originally set up this site in a hurry was because of the demise of another site where we used to hang out, so I think it's appropriate we continue to be a safe haven for the wandering lost.

I know he live is Swansea Cyber, but I heard the Welsh are almost as cheap as the Scots, so my bet he's not hitting those shires for money. (smilies)
Jim

Slight correction:
Per head of population, UK stats consistantly record both Scotland and Walse as higher givers to charity, with the former nation topping the tables time after timee.
The idea of the 'mean Scot' was a cheap act by a music hall performer, Harry Lauder, which stuck.
There has never been any basis in fact for this notion.

I'd have thought that some of the more prolific ones must be suffering withdrawal symptoms if they hadn't anywhere similar to go.
Well, here am I - one of the somewhat less prolific ones.
I was just discussing some of St Paul's less attractive attributes, and being told by Hope that anyone who thought the liberal Christian Bishop Shelby Spong had anything noteworthy to say must be extremely gullible.
I tend to think that people who believe six or six thousand impossible things before breakfast are the gullible ones - but there you go.

Liked your list about the order the NT was written, BTW.

According to Horsethorn there are some precious loves over there who have allegedly said that they would leave R&E if I was ever allowed to return so they would clearly be too scared to come to a board where I was a member.

Don't they know that you are all cuddly-wuddly.

I wonder if R&E will return? Although it was much livelier than this forum,  it hadn't attracted any new members for ages. I invited some people to join, whom I had met on other forums, but they were put off by the hypocritical nature of one or two Christian posters on R&E. One in particular really irritated them as he spent his time slagging off non believers in a very unpleasant way. If R&E stays closed I hope he doesn't find his way here!

I could never understand your permanent ban over there. We all forget ourselves and at like a pain in the arse sometimes - no-one is more guilty of that than I am, and I hope you don't mind me saying that you may have done so once or twice - but you are not the kind of poster who should be banned. You add to a forum, you don't detract from it.
Jim

Wot cyberman said. (Don't get embarrassed, Boyg, I've run out of tissues.)
The Boyg

It was always really about a clash of personalities.

I was able to put it to one side when I was an admin over there but certain people couldn't when they took up that post.
trentvoyager

Well there has always been this bollocks insinuating that there is much more that we ordinary posters don't know going on behind the scenes.

I doubt this somehow. And if there is, why is it not made known - then all the speculation would stop.
trentvoyager

I always made it clear that I was happy for everything to be out in the open, for the admin team to make public any message that I had posted or sent that justified their insinuations (after first redacting anything sensitive pertaining to other individuals). It was always the admins who insisted on secrecy.

Since this tweet Jakswan posted two more, making it appear that he's working on getting the forum back up with the assistance of @'UKhelp' but those tweets have now been removed.... so dunno...

If R&E does come back reckon we should have a forum campaign to get MG reinstated, after all he's been updating any posters from there looking over here with Jakswan's tweets.
Jim

Some of us have tried that on the "Banned Posters" thread, but with no result.
It's a pity more haven't come over here - I find the layout a lot easier to manage, plus there's the added bonus of being able to post links which work!
trentvoyager

Agreed Jim - I never really saw the need for R & E when this board was already here and up and running, and it has much more functionality.

Yes, good idea, all of his old mates are still there, debating the same old things and giving the same old responses and thinking that they are having constructive adult debate with each other. Please take him back, I for one will not miss him and you lot will very quickly regret it, especially Gordon who got rid of him. I do not think that writing a few post should be reason enough to reinstate him though. It is not exactly above and beyond the call of duty, is it?

Too scared!  I have no time for such manipulation and emotional blackmail as threatening to leave.  In such circumstances, ie supposed adults having a bit of verbal ping pong, such immaturity should not be given the time of day.

Anyhow, for those who enjoy R&E I'm glad it's back up and running, it's been fun to see you here again even if only for a brief spell.  Don't be strangers.

I only know that some people have suggested that you stopped being an admin on R&E and stopped posting on that forum last year as a consequence of something that went on between Rhiannon and yourself.

It's not important, I just thought that if confession with respect to R&E was the order of the day you might have something that you wanted to get off your chest.

Since you say that you don't consider that you have anything to confess then that is an end to my enquiry.

Don't be a silly billy Delly and Ralphs.  That's not a nice thing to say about somebody who doesn't post on this forum.  It's not a nice thing to say full stop, unless there's evidence otherwise - something I've not seen.  But either way, it's gossip.
Ketty

The Boyg wrote:

I stopped posting because I wanted to stop.  No other reason other than it was no longer a place I wanted to be.

Sorry Boyg, I've told nobody the full details* as to why I stopped being admin, and after all this time, I'm not going to start now. It was what it was and it's done.  People are free to make any speculations they like.  I understand people's desire to know and their propensity for gossip.  I'm the same in that sense.

Only Rhiannon can answer your question for herself: I don't know her thoughts around a 'something' that may, or may not have gone on in her head.  She's a pagan and I'm not - on some things our way of being is diametrically opposed: it's bound to be that way, because we serve different Masters.  I like Rhiannon: I did then, and I still do.  She's a good person.

* ETA, I chatted a little bit about it confidentially with the Mod Team here, and answered any PM questions that were sent to me at the time.

When you're on a bender you're less than endearing.
When you're just being 'you', you've always made me laugh, for lots of years now - way back to the last decade.   Gosh!  Have we 'known' each other that long?
When you're just being 'you', you can often be very interesting.
When you're just being 'you', you can sometimes be very frustrating.
When you're being an arsehole, you just smell.

Farmer Geddon

I'm putting thon description on my profiles!!

Farmer Geddon

"You are the Grand High Witch from "The Witches!" You are sophisticated, charming, and elegant — but not someone others should cross! Beneath your dignified exterior, there is great power and a sassy temper. You set your bar very high, and you have little patience for stupidity. You are dazzling and scary all at once.

The Grand High Witch is the leader of all witches in Roald Dahl's 1983 book, "The Witches." She was portrayed by the illustrious Anjelica Huston in the 1990 film of the same name."

Farmer Geddon wrote:

Nah!  Glinda:  "You are Glinda from "The Wizard of Oz!" You are elegant, refined, and kind-hearted. But people shouldn't be fooled by your calm, sweet exterior! You are strong, powerful, and sharp as a tack. Your wisdom and fierceness always shines through, and people should think twice before crossing you.

Glinda — whose full name is "Glinda the Good Witch of the North" — was played by Billie Burke in the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz." She is the most powerful sorceress in all of Oz, and a strong ruler in Emerald City."

Either way, there's a warning.  You'd better believe it.
Farmer Geddon
