The Bible is wholly a collection of human thoughts, imo.

Brilliant, Canard! Let's hope everybody that saw it got the message ... although I fear the severely indoctrinated will just think it a poor joke.
Leonard James

Cor, Lynne, you don't 'alf go on, me dear!

The potato clip was a brilliant parody of how gullible people can be persuaded to believe these daft things, and hopefully it will open many people's eyes to how silly it all is.

Lynne,

Quote:
they cannot explain why some believers profess to know God.

What's to explain? People believe lots of things; some profess to know that the dead can give them useful advice via a medium, others profess to know that aliens are among us, or they profess to know that we will be reincarnated after death in a form we have come to deserve due to our actions in life, or that witches can curse people, that some people can read the thoughts of others, that seeds can sure cancer, that the alignment of the stars can influence the things that happen to you, that the holocaust is hugely exaggerated, that weeping statues can heal the sick, that your name can change your fortune, that trees can communicate with each other, that Richard the Third never ordered the murder of the princes in the tower, that humans came from another planet

There are millions and millions of different beliefs, some pretty crazy and unusual, some relatively sensible and popular. You profess to know God. So?
Lexilogio

And where is your documentary evidence that Richard 3rd ordered those deaths?
Pukon_the_Treen

Hey, I'm one of those who believes in Richard the Third as a good guy!

The only thing gullible is people who really think ridicule is wise or acceptable to cover a lack for what they cannot and do not understand.
When man has no answers he makes them up according to what suits the persons nature.

But it is more truthful to say that man mocks what he cannot explain or understand. It doesn't change with any generation.

Love JL.xx

Lynne, dear, I'm afraid we understand you far better than you do yourself!
Ketty

One is reminded of Lizzy Bennet - Follies and nonsense, whims and inconsistencies do divert me, I own, and I laugh at them whenever I can.

First of all - if you didn't make such ridiculous statements then you wouldn't leave yourself open to ridicule.

Secondly - I'm sorry to burst your bubble here, but seeing as you make absolutely no sense most of the time then the ridicule you receive is justified

See what I mean - this make no sense to anybody, not even yourself if you were in fact truthful.

Man does not "mock what he cannot explain or understand" - The only person I have seen doing so, so far, is you....
Leonard James

I'm afraid Lynne invites ridicule by posting such arrant nonsense.
Farmer Geddon

Maybe we should call her "Marjorie Dawes" from now on Len....

Seeing as they both have problems saying sorry:

Lynne,

Quote:
Look at what I said in the context it was said and to whom. Think about the thread

Ok, yes, done all that.
Quote:

tell me why you wrote what you did?

I wrote what I did to respond to your suggestion that atheists made up the word 'indoctrinated' because we cannot explain why some believers profess to know God. The clue is where I quoted that sentence at the beginning of my post.
Pukon_the_Treen

Lynne,

Still doesn;t answer the point about iondoctrination...

Does it...

Yes, it does.

...... but the bible claims that God alone is the ultimate author.

It is an accepted conviction that God himself was speaking through the messages of the Old Testament.
The Jews and the NT writers all accept that the OT was inspired by God.
Jesus also being Jewish upheld this belief and it was shown that he believed the they were more important than human opinions and traditions.
The Writers of the NT believed they were teaching Gods wisdom not mans.

Was mans traditions and opinions held too fast by the Jews?
Was Christ showing their true meaning according to what Moses taught?
Is the bible inspired by God, rather than mans opinions and traditions, today?

Jeremiah 1:9 (King James Version)

9.Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (King James Version)

16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Back to adult stuff.

OK lets start with Jeremiah:

You are using one selected verse as 'proof' of your assertion, as usual taken totally out of context with the passage it is culled from.

Have you actually read Jeremiah?

As for old Tim:

Written by Men who needed to control their fellow man with superstition and fear...
