The Faces Behind The Usernames

Well, we had this on the last one, so it'd be nice to have a new repository for photos of all you lovely people. Always nice to put a face to the name.

So, in the spirit of leading by example:

You have no idea how long it takes to find a photo when I'm not caught looking like I'm gurning or suffering from severe facial deformity

As for how to upload photos:

(1) Open an account here - www.photobucket.com
(2) Upload your pictures
(3) Paste the [IMG] (or [URL] to make it a link instead of the pic itself) code directly in to a post

Alternatively, if they're hosted elsewhere just paste the URL in to the post, highlight it, and click the "IMG" button to make it into a pic!

Re: The Faces Behind The Usernames

Well, if I were a good *ahem* 20 years *cough* younger, you'd physically be my type.  Very reminiscent of Mr K and not too unlike, if I may say so, my very handsome and extremely gorgeous son.

Oooooh young man!

Sssshhh!  Shaft, did I say it right?  Did I miss anything out?  Can I have my £5 now?

Not nice and totally unacceptable whether it's direct or by association.

I'd pictured you in my mind's eye as a much younger version of Tess Bateman, the character off Casualty?

What I've enjoyed about meeting people from message boards is to see how much they're similar or different to the portraits we paint from their words and board personas.
Shaft2101

Sorry for being completely ignorant - but on what basis does everyone assume Lexi is black? Have I overlooked something?

Shaft2101 wrote:

Has everyone?  Thought it was just me?

It wasn't an assumption on my part, just the picture I'd got of her in my mind.

I'm beginning to feel uncomfortable here and I don't understand why . . . I could just have easily have imagined you as ginger or a blonde transvestite or a punk - it's just random pictures one imagines when putting an imaginary face to the personality which comes across through messages.  As more than 50% of the people with whom I associate are not white, it's quite usual for me to imagine a poster to be black.  Wassermatterwiththat?

How long has the salisbury been a rock pub.
It wasn't a rock pub in the mid-80's because I worked in Manchester for a few years and we sometimes met up at lunch time when it was someones birthday in the Salsibury.

BevIsHopeful

You're quite handsome.     Did you win anything?
Shaft2101

I only won the first day (about 150 runners), but the second day/main event I went out as an 80% favourite in the first hand. Sadly, much as there's a skill element, luck also plays its role
BevIsHopeful

I remember one of our honeymoon jaunts was to stop in at the Atlantic City casinos with three-hundred dollars at the time, and my husband lost every bit of it at the Black Jack table within an hour.    It's good I had no interest elsewhere since the money went so quickly.
Shaft2101

Blackjack is actually a beatable game if you count cards (which isn't that difficult) - because the dealer always has to act in a prescribed way, and you have superior information on the cards remaining in the deck, you can actually swing the edge in your favour.

The difficult part is not getting caught and getting blacklisted by every casino in the country ;)

That said, any experience which warns you away from typical negative EV (expected value) gambling can only be a good thing :)

It seems very unfair, you get better at playing the game and they don't let you play anymore.
Lexilogio

Blackjack is too easy - and boring.

I once won £30 on Craps (from my last £3), and found that very addictive - which is why I don't play. I think it's the cheering atmosphere of those watching.
BevIsHopeful

I remember enjoying very much just watching the people play craps, Lexi.  I often thought if I was going to try anything, it would have been that.

I agree with SOTB about Black Jack.  My husband actually studied the counting card thing, but his nature keeps him from really cheating.
foolfodder

BevIsHopeful wrote:

I don't see how they can claim it is cheating though. You're there to play a game and make decisions using your brain, but you're not allowed to use your brain in a certain way to win. It's like setting up a chess tournament where you're only allowed to think 2 moves ahead. Potty.
BevIsHopeful

Well, I agree with you.  I used to argue with him that anyone who can actually do this with the skill it would take to consistently win deserves to win, as the whole thing felt impossible to me.   Smilie_PDT

To me it would be like saying the Heisman Trophy winner is cheating because he was born with the innate ability to be superior in the sport (or to say Beckham was cheating with that unbelievable bendy ball he kicks 'round people.  :o )

My cousin's horn was legendary indeed; put the fear of God into the unrighteous.  His nickname was Girth (occasionally Girth the Great), and that wasn't just because of his weight.

Yes, the horn of Girth is a sacred artefact which is now held in my keeping; I am considering buying silver tip and mouthpiece accessories to further enhance it's majesty.

Hi Puke,

'Fear of God into the unrighteous' I love that.
Was that meant to be funny or were you being sincere about calling him 'Girth'? Being weighty is no fun you know. I was ill for a while and piled on the pounds {which I have more or less almost lost all now.) It is no joy having added weight but it sure feels good when it comes off.

I am going to regret this but I would like to know more about these events and what you get up to. They sound fun and not being a religious theme I would like to know more.

Well they did raid britain in the late 700's. King Canute( knut) was a ruler of England in 1000's and you only have to look at Lucifers Duck to know they went into Scotland.     The reign finished in the  period  the Norman conquest and into the 1100's when  the Scots then drove them out but they did not come out of the Scotish islands till the 1400's so you could have some viking blood in you somewhere.
