Who needs god?

Scientists are on their way to creating life, having made RNA which appeared before DNA. Now they believe they can make a human brain in the near future:

The apparent complexity of the human mind is not a barrier to building a 'replica' brain claims Professor Markram. "The brain is of course extremely complex because it has trillions of synapses, billions of neurons, millions of proteins, and thousands of genes. But they are still finite in number. Today's technology is already highly sophisticated and it allows us to reverse engineer the brain rapidly." An example of the capability already in place is that today's robots can do screenings and mappings tens of thousands of times faster than human scientists and technicians.

Based on what I've read, synthesising some form of simple life may be just around the corner, scientifically speaking - a few years at least, a few decades at most. I think it's an absolutely fascinating area and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

My sole reservation is that if (rather than when) it happens, it'll inevitably give succour and a little extra piece of ammo to creationists and IDers, because they'll then be able to crow that it "demonstrates" that it takes intelligence to create life. They'll see it as "confirming" their stance that goddunnit.

Did you see that BBC series on the cell recently?

Hey Puke, thank you for that. I hadn't heard about it, so I've just downloaded the three episodes and watched the first. Fascinating!

However, with a bit of luck non-believers everywhere will have become a much larger majority...

I've been posting on Perry Marshall's blog. He thinks himself a kickass ID-er but has only come out with the same old nonsense, arguing from incredulity and saying god must have done it. It didn't take him long to lapse into creationism. It never does.

Regarding god, where in the bible does it show that he has more than the intellect of an ancient goat-herder? To make this universe, all you needed was lots of hydrogen and sufficient time.
Judders Lady...

The main truth is that scientist need matter to create matter.
God didn't... That is why the scientist can make many things but they cannot make theirs out of nothing...

We have to work with the materials before us, everything a scientist or human does is simply based on our own human bodies and the truth is that they can only work with that which they already have.
What can any type of matter be made into, if not a duplicate of what it already is?

Now a scientist, being able to create something from nothing... that would be my ultimate achievement as far as scientist go.
That man would be very special indeed.

Casimir effect. Virtual particles come from nothing, provable in a lab. Hawking radiation is particles from nothing.

How does god create something from nothing? The bible talks of him making heaven and Earth but not of him creating something from nothing. He used pre-exiting materials, as he did when he made the Earth, which was without form (ie: basic ingredients).

Okay without being in a lab using equipment make them appear without a source of radiation. You can't radiation and lab equipment only confirm they are there. They do not create them from nothing.

bara (bah-rah) to form or to fashion, to create.

Genesis 1

1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.   without contents; empty.  There was nothingness...

Judders Lady... Virtual particles are created by two uncharged metal plates atomically close. No radiation or electricity needed.

Genesis 1:2, the original words had many meanings -

http://biblelexicon.org/genesis/1-2.htm

The earth was without form and void could have meant a desolate and ruined country.

Darkness on the face of the deep could have meant misery on the waters.

And the spirit of god moved on the face of the waters could mean a powerful and violent wind caused a flood.

That was the trouble with Hebrew. It was so VAGUE that ten people reading the same paragraph could come out with different meanings.

So you need 'luck' on your side?

Luck, like God, doesn't actually exist outside the human mind. Good luck and bad luck are just ways of 'explaining' why something good or bad happens to us.

Just as well God does exist outside the human mind because 'LUCK' is something believers do not require with Gods presence.
The truth is that those who do not have the Spirit cannot have the same assurance of belonging to God. The Spirit clears the sin from our hearts.
If you want to follow your flesh then you cannot follow God.
Jesus Christ is the means and way by which a person can receive the Holy Spirit.

God is a God of the impossible and he is not a liar.
Jesus Christ is the way in which every sinner can be saved to the ultimate. The problem with most Churches today is that most of them do not have leaders who have experienced the true way.
I think that if we are to go the way of Christ then as Jesus says,
"If any man will follow me, Let him *DENY HIMSELF* let him *TAKE UP HIS CROSS*  The cross Christ carried was done through total denial of himself, wants, needs, submitting everything including his will to the will of God. Every person born of the Spirit will deny himself and follow Gods will for their lives and so come to the things God has planned for them.

They will receive abuse from the World but God is the only person in Jesus Christ who can deny them...... As Jesus says, if you deny him then he will deny you before the Father. The apostles say beware of whom you turn away from your door. Some have entertained angels unaware.
Do angels still walk amongst us? ( I am sure they do).

Yes, of course you are! We all tell the truth about what we believe, even those Christians who disagree with you!
