As an experiment it seems to have run its course...

What else can it achieve?

What are the Pros and Cons of keeping it open?

I wouldn't be sorry to see the back of it particularly.  Though some of the bickering was quite funny most of it was just puerile nonsense.

I especially like the way it was largely made because Rob kept complaining about obscenities and abuse, but he quickly became a keen contributor. Glad he was able to let off some steam there.

Makes you wonder if anyone will notice whether it is gone or not.
The insults happen all over the forum. What is the difference?
Oh besides the bad language...

Personal insults do not happen all over the forum. We do allow a fair bit of laxity, but the things that go on in the Bear Pit are not acceptable elsewhere.

You and I, both know that you do not need to use an insulting word to insult someone. To believe that there is no insulting of others on the forum for lack of language would to be disingenuous to say the least.

We both know that to insult someone does not require an obvious form. Neither does it excuse a person ignoring it.
Seeing as God sees it very clearly and the bias confirmed in people allowing it to go unheeded.

Yes the bear pit is a free zone and it can express the things openly.
Though full of bad language by others, at least God knows those there are saying it openly rather than thinking it and allowing it to be said underhanded elsewhere.
There is much to be said for seeing a persons true colours no matter how much they profess it, not to be so.

That's why I've voted to keep it.  Keep all that 'language' on there - clearly there's a need for it, as has been so ably demonstrated.   As a very minor exercise in people watching, it's been extremely interesting to see how people behave when not constrained by rules.
