Hi Hupo,

That is a very interesting story, especially about the void which set the whole turning process in motion.

Looking at it from my point of view, I can only assume that although you previously professed no belief in God, except as your own creation, your childhood exposure to him never really disappeared. The need was still there to believe, and finally it overcame your unbelief.

I truly think that some people are actually fooled by their subconscious into believing that the 'voice' it produces comes from outside, which is a clever way to get belief resuscitated.

I hope you are not offended by that, but that is how I see it.

No.... I am not offended. I would be hurt if you told me "pink stories" just to be friendly, so don't worry about that.
There are many who disagree with me. The Hamas, Hizbollah and many in the Arab world disagree with me existing at all!
(but lets leave politics out of this thread)

Ahh you don't want to take any notice of them, they're religious.

Don't forget that religion has always been used as an ends to justify actions in reality. In the political "hot spot" of the middle east, Israel is the USA's foremost ally. Include Saudi Arabia, and we have the world's largest current oil exporter. Nearby Iraq is set to overtake Saudi Arabia in a few years, oh! and guess what? It's largely controlled by the USA!

So I suspect oil, rather than oranges and lemons, is  the real reason for US support for Israel Even if the US has a large and influential Christian political lobby.

Maybe you should ask yourself what God is doing about the middle east? Bugger all, from where I stand.

Oh no!  and I always thought it was because of our blue eyes
oh, by the way.... we hardly have any water, let alone oil

Well, it looks we are standing on different toad stools

I wonder what "bugger all" consists of? Lets see...........
The establishing of the Jewish state in 1948 wasn't exactly an obvious outcome. We were attacked the very next day, if you recall, and won the war against tremendous odds.
The six-day-war was another great victory (at least military speaking)

I know we have a good army but this was beyond anything ANY army could accomplish.

I believe "we got by with a little help from our friend" as the song goes

Just don't ask me WHY God is doing all this

It's obviously because you are his 'chosen' people!

If I was an atheist I would have the same reaction, smileys included!

and so, after you have had your laugh I would add....

It is an embarrassing prospect for me as being "chosen" can easily bring up the feeling that we are better than others. It also brings up the questions "why?" and "What for?". To my mind God did this (for whatever reason) not because of who we are but in spite of it! According to scripture we are supposed to be "a light to the nations". Looking at what is, I don't see us as much of a light so this is one of my bigger questions to God.

It is not a comfortable feeling, this "chosen" stuff. Yet scripture does say this and so I turn to God to find out why and what

By the way, how would YOU explain the Jewish state being created in the middle of a hornets nest, after 2000 years of wonderings
You think our army is THAT good? and if so how did it come to be so?

The fact that the US supplied the most up to date fighter aircraft, tanks, missiles, hardware & training may have had an impact.

Yes, but the USA is the Right Hand of God, so no inconsistency there with the Jewish belief of divine patronage.

I do find it odd when people parody a view which no-one holds
