The evidence is clear that the Gospels were written anonymously.. and that the names attached to them are false.. there are only 7 books that all scholars agree were written by who it is claimed by, which puts into doubt the other 20, the odds are against the NT being the truth..
Certainly I believe that the books are written by those the Church has always believed they were written by. The so called "higher criticism" goes through fads, and this is their fad at the moment. A new fad will no doubt come along in time The fathers, some of whom knew the apostles or new people who had met the apostles, knew who they were written by.
I think that ALL the gospels, letters and related paraphernalia that were doing the rounds in the centuries after "Jesus" was executed were written with an agenda.
The reason why the names that were attributed to the gospels, etc. we have in the canon is bleedin' obvious - they needed "authority", and what better way to achieve that than attach names that would be well known as "authoritative".
That said I never really understood why the gospels "according to" the apostles/disciples of "Jesus" never made it into the canon, surely they were more reliable?
The fact that it is bleedin obvious might be why I didn't ask.
You have said that the incorrect attribution of authorship is a lie. Fine. I am asking you who do you think has lied.
Do you think the person, whoever it was, that actually wrote the stuff has lied (regarding authorship). Or do you think that the person who came along later and said "This was written by John" etc. has lied?
Which of those two people do you think is a liar regarding the attribution of authorship?
