It's a game that is played frequently on the Radio 4 commedy panel show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.  In the canonical version of the game, players take it in turns to name stations on the London Underground.  The first player to say "Mornington Crescent" is the winner.

Usually on the show, they play one of the many variants involving a number of arcane rules.

I hope that clears everything up for you.

By the way, there is a joke involved, but I can't tell you what it is without breaking the unwritten rule which is "Never give away the Mornington Crescent joke".  If you are interested, I believe there was quite a heated discussion about it in the Wikipedia article.

Indeed.  So many people forget how pivotal the effective use of a one-way system can be in this game.

I'm not a great fan of the one way system.  It's so easy to find yourself in East Cheam, particularly if you are playing NeŘberger's variation.
