Which God will you be turning to hupo? Zeus? Thor? John Frum? Bacchus?

No don't tell me, .... the Jewish carpenter wins your faith.

Whew!  It's been a while now
But yes, you got it right, that's who I turn to

So who or what do you turn to? (or away from?)
Or are you self sufficient?

So what's wrong with Allah or Thor? How do you know Jesus isn't the wrong one?  A wrong choice and you'll be frying alongside me! To a muslim, you are an infidel. Allah will not like you at all!

Oh and don't forget, Jesus was the one who threatened us with the fiery lake. Some "loving" God!

Whoever I turn to is a real person, not some fictitious character in an old book.

I wouldn't know if there is anything wrong with Allah, Thor or anyone else and I don't know that Yeshua (Jesus) is the "right" one. I believe he is!
Could I be wrong? I obviously don't think so but I sure can't prove it.

Turning to a real person is a good choice. That's why I chose Yeshua in the first place. A matter of choice based on faith.

What I also believe in, apart of God and Yeshua is that each person should live by His/Her faith and not anyone else's!

That is why I have no problem with Atheists, and anyway, God believes in Atheists even if they don't believe in Him

Any other suggestions?

It seems that we are hardwired to be religious and this played an important part in our past in cohesion of the social group so as to reduce conflicts and disputes and so on.

It has been found that during rituals the brains parts that control moral and ethical actions, i.e. behaviours, is activitated and this includes the inhibiting of unsavory ideas and notions. It's like alcohol it makes you say things like, "I love you man !" and so creates a suppliant community. Of course you have to believe in the significance and power of the rituals for them to have this potency.

Hi Bushman,

Yes, I'm sure you're right about the psychological effects and the bonding power of religious beliefs. In the past it was useful for the survival and continuance of the group they belonged to.

Atheists seem not to need belief in such things to feel that they 'belong'. Recognition of the fact that we are all members of the same species unites us.

An Atheist friend of mine exclaimed the other day:

Thank God I'm an Atheist !!

It is indeed amusing how such expressions are so much a part of our culture that we use them without even thinking of the implication!

On the other hand, of course, your friend may just have said it for the comic effect, as I have myself at times.

Well, Leonard,

Humor solves a lot of stress points in our lives
This same friend said to me once: "You know, I would believe in God, if He existed"

I'm no Atheist, as you know, but I sure don't have a problem with any. "Live and let live" works for me

Yes, that's the sensible approach my friend, but some of us have been bitten by the 'evangelising' bug, and we aren't strong enough to resist!
